Lesson Plan:

Student Centered Philosophy

Concept/ topic to teach: Why it is important to students to have more than one teaching philosophy to learn

 

General Goal: To show different ways to teach students so that all can learn

Required Materials: Power point, computer, video clip, textbook: Teachers, Schools, and Society

Anticipatory Set (Lead in): Student activity

Step-by-step Procedures:

1.      Complete the anticipatory set

2.       Show power point presentation

3.      Show video clip

Plan for Independent practice: Have students study the chapter- 8 for later quiz

Specific Objectives: When students finish this lesson, they should be able to

·         Understand what progressivism, social reconstructionism, and existentialism is

·         Recognize that student centered philosophies are focused on the students and their needs

 

·         Identify both the teachers and students approaches to each philosophy

·         Identify some of the advantages and disadvantages

Plan for Independent practice: Have students study the chapter- 8 for later quiz

Closure: Explain to students why anticipatory set was done

Assessment based on objectives: Students will be assessed by later quiz questions, covering major concepts

 

Adaptations (for students with learning disabilities): Students with documented learning disabilities will be given more time on the multiple choice quiz

 

Extensions (for gifted students): none

 

Possible connections to other subjects: This chapter includes information on different philosophies. This connects education with real world applications.
